“CLUBS FORE CHRISTMAS” A HUGE SUCCESS FOR THE FIRST TEE OF MYRTLE BEACH

(Attached photo: Jim Hart (left) and Ryan Hart (right) pose with First Tee of Myrtle Beach juniors at December 15 Clubs Fore Christmas presentation at Golf Academy of America’s Myrtle Beach campus.)

Each year we decorate our homes, send Christmas letters, and exchange gifts. Many of us become so involved with the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season that we forget the reason for the season.

What is the purpose of Christmas and what is the true reason of the season?

In this humble writers opinion, the purpose of the Christmas season is to celebrate Christ's life and the "reason" we should focus on giving, rather than on receiving, is because Jesus gave us the ultimate gift; the gift of salvation by way of his death for our sins.

The Golf Academy of America's Myrtle Beach campus knows all about giving back to the community. This year they collected over 200 golf clubs for the First Tee of Myrtle Beach!

For more information and particulars of the event, please read the official press release below.

It is held at Myrtle Beach National’s SouthCreek, West and King’s North courses and is open to junior golfers under the age of 18.

The junior championship is held in memory of George Judson Holliday, III, of Galivants Ferry, S.C., who won many junior level and collegiate tournaments before dying at the age of 22 in November 1967.

More than 10,000 juniors have visited the Myrtle Beach area to participate in this tournament over the years. The event has hosted numerous junior golfers who have achieved success on the professional and the collegiate level including PGA TOUR and LPGA golfers Lucas Glover, D.J. Trahan and Kristy McPherson; former collegiate golfers George Bryan IV (South Carolina), Sam Lyons (Coastal Carolina) and Cimmie Shanan (Furman); and current collegiate players Jacob Burger (Clemson) and Tripp McCallister (Coastal Carolina).

This year, the tournament drew a field of 241 participants hailing from 15 states and Canada.

About The Annual George Holiday Memorial Junior Golf Tournament

Played every year over Thanksgiving Weekend, this exciting Junior Tournament is a popular event for the entire family. All golfers up to 18 years of age are entered based on age. There are both male and female divisions, and for the fourth year in a row, the tournament is expanded to 3 rounds and limited to the first 420 entries.

The "George Holliday Memorial" Junior Golf Tournament was established to honor a successful junior and collegiate golfer who was tragically killed in 1967 in an automobile accident at the age of 22. This Galivants Ferry, S.C. native believed that his experience as a junior golfer was paramount in molding him into the fine young man he became. His family created this tournament to give more juniors this opportunity.
