South Carolina Golf Courses

With almost 400 golf courses from the mountains to the sea, and over 100 of those located in the popular Grand Strand area of Myrtle Beach and Georgetown counties, South Carolina can truly lay claim to the title of -The Golf Capital of the South." Golf has long been a popular sport in South Carolina for residents and visitors alike. It is golf that extends the state’s tourism season to being virtually year round since many hotel and motels on the coast offer special accommodation packages to lure golfers during the official tourism off-season after September. These special golf packages make visiting South Carolina easy and affordable, with special bargains available all along the coast from Myrtle Beach to Beaufort and Hilton Head Island.

Within its boundaries South Carolina offers golf courses designed by Hall of Fame golfers Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Davis Love III, not to mention two golf courses noted by golf experts in the -Top 50 Women-Friendly Courses" in the United States. Best of all, South Carolina’s best golf courses are open to the public, like the Harbor Town Links on Hilton Head Island, site of the annual PGA Heritage Classic or the famous Ocean Course at the Kiawah Island Resort near Charleston, where the 2012 PGA Championship will be played.

Golf not only resides along the coast in South Carolina. Other scenic courses that offer the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains can be found in Greenville County, where the Cliffs Valley family of three golf courses annually hosts a PGA Pro Am (teams that include both pro golfers and amateurs, including many nationally known celebrities) sponsored by BMW.
