SC Golf: Camilo Villegas Takes Home the 2010 Honda Classic

In one weekend Camilo Villegas (Spider-Man) played 4 amazing rounds of golf, took home the trophy/ prize money, and broke the course record at the 2010 Honda Classic. His accomplishment marked the third victory in his young career. It has been just over a year since Villegas won the BMW Championship and the PGA TOUR Championship. Villegas scored -13 and finished with 267 overall.

According to Villegas’ mental coach Gio Valiante, last season was a building year. The initial goal for this year was to build upon the success of last year and focus on performance. Villegas has also tied for 8th place (Waste Management Phoenix Open, and took 3rd place (World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship) this year. In all, 2010 has been quite successful for Camilo Villegas.

Sunday was not as successful for other hopefuls at the 2010 Honda Classic. There is an old adage that states, “If you don’t succeed, try, try again.” This rang true for Nathan Green yesterday afternoon. He finished the day with 3 bogeys, one bogey, and a final score of -1 and 279.

Vijay Singh should have remembered to pack his 4 leaf clover and a lucky horseshoe. Singh was set up to have his best finish in more than a year but back-to-back bogeys and his unavoidable Achilles Heel, his putter, slowed him down yet again. Fortunately he was able to pull it together towards the end of the day and he finished the event in the 4th position with a -6 score and 274 total.
