SC Golf: Honda Classic Round 3 Results

Villegas, Villegas, Villegas… Marsha Brady, eat your heart out! This weekend at the Honda Classic one name is on everyone’s mind. Camilo Villegas has more then taken up the slack that Tiger Woods left behind. Many thought that Tiger would leave a wake of devastation when he left the PGA to attend rehab for his “sex” addiction. Sorry folk, I usually try to keep this clean and unbiased, but if you can’t keep the horse in the barn you should close the door. Never-the-less, and all biases set aside, Camilo Villegas brought his A game to the 2010 Honda Classic.

Camilo Villegas, the 28-year-old native of Medellin, Columbia, carded an impressive 67 for the 3rd round of the Honda Classic. He is currently at an impressive 11 under par and at a total of 199. Nathan Green and Fiji’s Vijay Singh, the winner of the 1999 Honda Classic, are just three strokes behind Villegas.

SC Golf Fun Fact: Villegas’ 3 stroke cushion is the largest lead in the Honda Classic history since Todd Hamilton enjoyed a 4 stroke advantage after 54 holes of golf at the 2004 tournament.

SC Golf Fun Fact: Prior to Saturday’s match, Villegas has only been the 54 hole leader once which occurred at the 2008 BMW Championship. He was only one stroke ahead of Jim Furyk; Villegas went on to win that event by 2 strokes.

Villegas’ lead, 11 under par, is the lowest for a leader in the 4 years that the Honda Classic has been held at the Champion course at PGA National. Villegas will undoubtedly attempt to end in victory today! His drought consists of 23 PGA TOUR events since his last victory at the 2008 TOUR Championship in Atlanta which has been 1 year, 5 months, and seven days. C’mon Villegas! We are all rooting for ya!

Every professional athlete has an angle... and we all know who villegas espires to be... Spider-Man.
