GOLF EVENT SEEKS PARTICIPANTS TO ASSIST IN FINDING A CURE FOR LUPUS

Current NBA Player and former Maryland Terrapins Star Chris Wilcox to Host Event at Myrtle Beach National

July 1, 2010, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – On Saturday, July 10, Myrtle Beach National will host the 2nd annual Chris Wilcox Charity Golf Outing. The shotgun scramble tournament will begin at 10:00 a.m. on MBN’s South Creek Course. The charity golf event is an effort to raise money to find a cure for Lupus, a debilitating disease that hampers and attacks the immune system.

Wilcox is a Whiteville, N.C. native and is currently a forward with the NBA’s Detroit Pistons. As a collegiate player at the University of Maryland, he helped lead the Terrapins to the 2001-02 NCAA National Championship. For Wilcox, the search to find a cure for Lupus is a personal one. Tragically, he lost two of his aunts after their respective battles with Lupus and his sister currently suffers from it.

“Right now there is no cure, or known cause for Lupus and 90 percent of those affected are women,” said Wilcox. “After losing my aunts and seeing how my sister is affected by it, finding a cure for Lupus has become a personal crusade for me. I hope the Myrtle Beach community will come out to support this event and have some fun for a good cause.”

Wilcox will be joined at the tournament by Latta, S.C. native and current Charlotte Bobcats guard Raymond Felton. Other celebrities are expected to be announced prior to the event.

Registration for the 18-hole tournament is $75.00 per person, or $300 per foursome. Prizes will be awarded for the top three teams, closest to the pin and longest drive. Multi-level sponsorships are also available.
